I was looking to make a custom blogging website but had no coding experience, so I used a website to find developers for the project – www.freelancer.com. Posting my project was easy and free, and I received over 20 bids on my project within a few hours. I was able view the potential developer’s ratings, previous work and reviews from other hirers. I was even able to chat with potential developers before awarding my project, just to make sure they understood the vision for my site.
Once I hired the right web developer, we created a milestone-based payment system. This is common on freelance sites to ensure that the hirer (me in this case) is satisfied with the development of the site in a stage-by-stage method. Hirers and freelancers may only communicate through the freelancer.com messenger chats and video chats. Many of the freelancers are international, which made communicating through a video chat tough due to different time zones. Sometimes there can be a language barrier, so read the developer’s reviews to see if that is a factor. Without any technical or coding knowledge, I was still able to communicate my ideas to the developers and create the site I envisioned.
My site was up and running in about two weeks. For a non-technical person looking to create a simple website or app, using a freelance website is a great option because it is cheap, easy and quick. Some other popular freelance sites to check out are www.upwork.com and www.guru.com.
