It’s possible to double book your calendar every night of the week with events in Miami. The city is building a reputation as a tech and entrepreneurial hub. Community members are working a great deal to make that happen through the hosting of events and gatherings at some of city’s finest venues.
If I hadn’t stepped out of my comfort zone this past summer to attend an event at the Idea Center at Miami Dade College-Wolfson, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in now – building a legal tech company while still completing my J.D. at the University of Miami. Not only will you meet like-minded, innovative individuals, you will also learn a great deal about what it takes to build a company, fund for your startup, and network for business and personal success.
So, I’ve compiled a list of the events that have made an impact on my journey to becoming a legal tech entrepreneur. They are both educational and inspiring. Mark my words, you will not regret your decision to get uncomfortable for a few hours in order to get out and meet the members of the Miami entrepreneurial community:
1. Ask a Startup Lawyer
This monthly meet-up, hosted by a well-known startup lawyer, features a roundtable discussion where entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to ask the legal questions that may impact their businesses. The meetup caps number of attendees, but still provides a great opportunity to meet and connect with attendees in a more intimate setting.
2. Refresh Miami
Considered Miami’s largest tech meetup, Refresh Miami is known to host popular fireside chats with entrepreneurial masterminds. They usually charge a small fee for attending, but do provide plenty of pizza and beer. Their events boast large numbers of attendees, so don’t be surprised to meet individuals who are not necessarily in the tech space.
3. Tech Beach
This is the only meetup on this list that I’ve not had a chance to attend. However, word on the street is that Tech Beach is quickly becoming well-known for hosting networking events at popular Miami Beach venues. If Miami Beach is accessible to you, definitely subscribe to their newsletter and network in-style with like-minded professionals.
