SUMMARY:UX Field Research Basics w/ UX Designer & Author David Farkas
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted with Ironhack and Building.co\, IxDA Miami is please to present a talk on “UX Field Research Basics” with user experience designer & author\, David Farkas.\nWith the speed at which technology is changing\, field research offers understanding into how products can impact the lives of your customers. Regardless if it’s your first or hundredth time\, conducting field research is a daunting task. Planning and conducting field research is a juggling act between preparation\, interview skills\, and synthesis. In this talk\, I’ll share some of the soft skills and key principles involved in any researcher’s toolkit and explore lessons learned from the three main stages of conducting field studies:\nStage 1: Planning and prep — Gathering good research data starts with proper planning. This includes everything from writing interview questions and developing an interview guide to recruiting participants and determining logistics.\nStage 2: Out in the field — Research can drain you both physically and mentally. I will introduce some tricks to keep your mind sharp\, allowing you to give each session your focus.\nStage 3: Finding the patterns — The data resulting from field research grows quickly. I outline a few techniques for making the most out of limited time and managing mountains of information.\nDavid is a User Experience Designer in Philadelphia\, PA and co-author of UX Research: Practical Techniques for Designing Better Products. A Miami native\, David moved to Pennsylvania for college and started his career in-house. He has worked in consultancies of all sizes\, has had opportunities to craft the design process within an organization\, and has adopted and evolved existing paradigms. His experience includes a range of financial services systems\, business systems\, and e-commerce and cross-channel platforms.\nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/dfarkas/\nFor more\, keep up with David at dfarkasdesign.com or on Twitter as @dafark8.

SUMMARY:The Dockering of .NET
DESCRIPTION:The June meeting of dotNet Miami will have one of our most popular speakers talking about one of the hottest technologies. .NET expert and Away From The Keyboard host\, Cecil Phillip\, will show us the marrying of Docker and .NET. Cecil will review the basics of Docker and how we can add containers to our applications.\nLocation\nWe’ll be meeting at the Microsoft Innovation Center at Venture Hive. The Microsoft Innovation Center in Miami (MIC Miami) is a state-of-the-art technology facility open to students\, software developers\, academic faculty\, entrepreneurs\, and startups for collaboration and skills development. Microsoft Innovation Center at Venture Hive is located at 1010 NE 2nd Ave Miami\, FL 33132. There’s limited parking in front of Venture Hive. If that lot is full there’s an empty lot directly behind the Venture Hive building. \nAnd as always we’ll have prizes at the end of the meeting\, including a free copy of Resharper from JetBrains!\nThe Dockering of .NET\nContainers are everywhere! They have taken over the software industry\, and are changing the way that we think about building applications. Whether you’re working with Linux or Windows\, or you may be deploying to Azure or AWS\, it doesn’t matter. The containers are coming to get you. \nIn this talk\, we’ll attempt to demystify many of the fundamental concepts around containers and Docker. We will explore a few real life use cases to see some of the ways Docker is being used in production today. We’ll also spend some taming the tooling and seeing what it’s like to add Docker support to our .NET applications. By the end of this talk\, you should be able to answer questions “Why Docker?”\, and have the confidence to being dockerizing your code.

SUMMARY:Bitcoin Knowledge: Running a Node on the Network
DESCRIPTION:We have another jam packed educational session for you! Stop by to learn how to run a Bitcoin node!\nWhat is a Bitcoin node and why are they important you ask!?\nThe reason bitcoin is the best form of money in human history is because Bitcoin nodes operate all over the globe in many jurisdictions. Anyone even moderately tech savvy with an internet connection and a bit of space on their computer hard drive can run a node. Bitcoin has a life of its own because there is no central point of failure since reachable nodes communicate with each other 24 hours a day to maintain a global consensus of all transactions on the Bitcoin network.\nThe event will start at 6 p.m. sharp! Arrive on time so you don’t get locked out of the building or miss the presentation. We will be talking Bitcoin nodes this meeting but are also here to answer any questions about bitcoin and digital currencies.

SUMMARY:Miami and Commercial Drones
DESCRIPTION:The Miami-Dade Beacon Council is launching an initiative to focus on a new segment of the aviation and technology sectors – drones.\nDrones – officially designated as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) — are expected to become more popular. While the FAA is projecting growth over the next five years in “nearly every aspect of air transportation\,” UAS represent a new type of aviation that offers accessibility to several types of operators and businesses. The FAA is predicting 3.55 million hobbyist drones\, and 442\,000 commercial drones will take to America’s skies by 2021.\nThe Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s Aviation Committee\, charged with further developing and expanding Miami’s already robust aviation and aeronautics industry\, believes this creates a new opportunity for Miami-Dade County.\n“Commercial interest in unmanned aircraft systems is accelerating rapidly\,” said Alex De Gunten\, chair of the Council’s Aviation Committee. “Miami-Dade County is uniquely qualified to serve as a year-round hub of drone innovation\, as well as the UAS gateway into Latin America.”\nA UAS working group has been created within the Aviation Committee to develop strategies on how Miami-Dade County can capitalize on the increasing interest in drones. In their 2016 report “Clarity From Above\,” PwC projects the global drone services sector will be valued at $127.3 billion by 2020. De Gunten says Miami-Dade County must act now to keep pace with other U.S. markets that are also vying for a share of the UAS industry.\nAs part of the new UAS initiative\, the Council will be hosting a mini-seminar for local business leaders on Thursday\, June 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at its offices. “Miami and Commercial Drones” will feature a current summary of how drones are reshaping several key industries such as agriculture\, real estate\, construction\, and public safety.\nThe mini-seminar will feature a presentation by Amanda Quevedo\, Aviation Safety Technician with the South Florida Flight Standards District Office (FSDO-19)\, who will discuss the FAA Part 107 regulations affecting commercial drone operations.\nLocal businesses and drone operators interested in learning more about the Miami-Dade Beacon Council’s new UAS working group are encouraged to contact James Kohnstamm at jkohnstamm@beaconcouncil.com
