SUMMARY:JavaScript: ES6 and Functional Programming with YDKJS's Kyle Simpson
DESCRIPTION:MiamiJS and Kyle Simpson (aka Getify) writer of the You Don’t Know JS series of books\, are teaming up to bring you a two-day workshop delving into ES6 and Functional Programming with JavaScript.\nYou can come to one or both days. Only 35 seats available. Early bird prices available until Mar. 7th.\nDay 1 Overview\nOn the first day\, we’ll dig into a bunch of new changes to JavaScript as of ES6 and get a glimpse of a few things on the horizon. The most important takeaway is that ES6 is not about new capabilities but rather new expressivity.\nIf our goal is to write cleaner\, clearer\, more understandable code—and it should be—ES6 offers myriad improvements that make our efforts so much more effective.\nTopics include:\n tArrow functions\n tBlock scoping\n tRest/spread operators\n tDefaults\n tDestructuring\n tTemplate literals\n tIterators\nDay 2 Overview\nArmed with our new-found knowledge for writing clean\, expressive\, declarative ES6+ code\, we’ll turn our attention to functional programming (FP).\nIf statements like “a monad is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors” intimidate or confuse you or if you’re not already steeped in the traditions of formality\, notation\, and academia that seem to drive most discussions around FP\, don’t worry; you’re not alone. Many of us quickly get lost wading through all those terms and symbols. But hidden under all that noise\, there’s a wealth of powerful concepts that all programmers can and should be using to bring their code up from merely working to readable and maintainable. I call this approach “Functional-Light JavaScript.”\nWe’ll walk step by step through each practical FP pattern\, staying as far from those crazy functor-like words as we can. We’ll see just how sensible and intuitive many parts of FP really are.\nTopics include:\n tSide effects versus pure functions\n tFunction composition\n tValue immutability\n tClosure\n tPartial application and currying\n tRecursion\n tList operations (map\, reduce\, filter)\n tFusion and transducing\nLunch\nPizza and drinks will be served for lunch and we’ll be right across the street from Bayside Marketplace if you prefer to go grab something else for lunch.\nNo refunds

SUMMARY:FREE Workshop: Learn the secret to designing products people love!
DESCRIPTION:Our Event\nWe all know Apple\, Coca-Cola\, and Starbucks as successful billion dollar companies. But what you may not know is that they share something important in common: they are all driven by a focus on great UX design! UX Design (short for User Experience Design) is the process of creating products that are built around the end-user’s needs. The idea is that if you create products that solve real pain points and are easy for customers to use\, more customers will want to use them! During Ironhack’s workshop at Venture Cafe\, we’ll teach you all the basic information you need to know about UX Design\, and guide you through an exercise that puts your new learnings to the test!\nOur discussion and workshop will focus on:\n1. What is User Experience (UX)?\n2. How do we “DESIGN” the User Experience?\n3. Why is UX so important?\n4. Who practices UX Design?\nFollowing the discussion on UX Design\, we’lll break out into groups to complete an exercise that puts all of our new learnings together! You’ll leave with a protoype of a mobile app that targets a real user’s pain points!\nOur speaker\nMaite Dalila is a UX Design Consultant with experience working on international projects for Mercedes\, Regus\, Tesco\, Fortnum & Mason as well as many start ups.\nCurrently\, she is a User Experience Designer at Kairos\, a facial recognition start up\, in Miami\, FL.\nAt work\, she develops UI requirements from concept to release. She defines features\, user flows\, and content. Her goal is to create enjoyable\, seamless experiences.\nWho should come\nThe principles behind UX design are applicable to any profession that works with people\, or has people as the end consumer of a product or service. This means that anyone in marketing\, business development\, entrepreneurship\, etc. (even doctors!) will leave with a valuable way of thinking to impact their approach to creating and providing.\nIn Ironhack’s UX Design course\, we’ve seen students come from all sorts of backgrounds\, including public policy\, literary magazines\, consulting\, and graphic design. And they’ve all left with new skills that have made them more productive in the workplace.\nWant to learn more?\nEmail the Ironhack team at mia@ironhack.com for questions about the free workshop or our UX/UI Design course!

It is also quiet enough to host most events such as this one.\n——-\nTransportation and Parking:\nWhen visiting South Beach\, Lyft or Uber is often the easiest option. Should you decide to bring your own car\, there is parking close by. You may be able to find street parking\, but the best thing to do is park at the municipal garage which charges $1/hour at:\n100 16th St\, Miami Beach\, FL 33139\nThere are two garages on 16th Street on opposite sides of the street\, so be sure to park at the city garage as it is much nicer and cheaper.
